This week in prep sports saw another coach reach a coaching milestone while another coach earned one of the highest honors in the state. The week also saw many big games as Borgia remained undefeated on the season with a pair of wins in the Washington tourney. The weekend will once again feature a pair of big time rivalry games as Kirkwood looks to remain perfect while Chaminade attempts to take control of the Metro Catholic Conference.

Let’s check out all of the action in today’s edition of the Friday Fast Break.

In the Rotating 8 tournament at Clayton, Parkway South head coach Thomas Williams reached the 400-win plateau by defeating Nerinx Hall 54-39. The win also gave Williams his 350th victory as the head coach of the Patriots. In the win over the Markers, Parkway South broke open the game by outscoring Nerinx Hall 40-11 in the middle two quarters to earn the win. Alivia McCulla paced the Patriots’ attack with 23 points and 11 rebounds while Annalise Dorr chipped in with 10 points to help Parkway South improve to 10-3 on the year.

In other coaching news, John Burroughs head swimming and diving coach Leslie Kehr earned the 2021-22 Coach of the Year award from the Missouri State High School Activities Association this past week. Kehrs has been the leader of the Bombers for many years and led Burroughs to a seventh-place finish in the Class 1 state championships last season. She has mentored many swimmers that have gone on to participate in the pool on the collegiate level.

On the court, Borgia improved to 15-0 on the season with a 62-49 win over Priory to advance to the final of the Washington Tournament Friday evening against St. Charles. The Knights raced out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as Adam Rickman scored 26 points and grabbed 15 boards to pace Borgia in the victory.

In more action at the Rotation 8 tourney for the girls, Eureka defeated Parkway South 84-48 to advance to the championship, game against Columbia Hickman Friday evening at 8 p.m. The Wildcats took the lead early in the contest en route to the victory as four players hit double digits in the win. Zoe Cuneio led the way for Eureka with 18 points while Maison Smith added 15 markers in the victory.

The top spot in the MCC is on the line Friday evening as De Smet travels to Chaminade for a key match-up against the Red Devils. Chaminade leads the all-time series over the Spartans 35-14 and are looking to rebound after falling to De Smet last year 77-61. Chaminade is currently on a nine-game winning streak after defeating Miller Career 58-46 this past Wednesday evening. Nilavan Daniels is pacing the Rec Devil attack by scoring 20.9 points per game while BJ Ward is adding 12.5 points per contest. Ben Winker has been a force on the boards by grabbing 7.9 caroms per game. The Spartans are coming off a 54-53 win at CBC last Friday evening that snapped a two-game losing skid. Justin Duff has been the offensive leader for De Smet as he is averaging 19.6 points per game while Riley Massey is adding 10.6 points a game. Patrick Origliasso leads the Spartans in rebounding by grabbing 7.2 boards per contest.

The backyard war between Kirkwood and Webster Groves takes place Friday evening as the Pioneers are looking to defeat the Statesmen for the first time since 2013. Kirkwood is off to their best start of the season in many years with a perfect 11-0 record after defeating Hazelwood Central 64-56 Tuesday evening. First-year head coach Sam Briscoe will look to Christian Hughes to continue his outstanding play as Hughes is averaging 15.1 points per contest. Javaris Moye is adding 13.0 points per game for the Pioneers while Aidan Trawick is grabbing 4.5 boards per contest. Webster Groves has bounced back after dropping six straight with a three-game winning streak that includes a 58-46 victory over Howell Tuesday evening. Iziah Purvey is pacing the Statesmen offense with 13 points a game while grabbing 7.8 rebounds per contest. RJ Trevino is adding 11.6 points a contest while Jalen Purvey has dished out 31 assists on the year.
