The basketball season is over and state championship trophies were awarded last weekend, but now it is time for the individual awards to start being announced over the next two weeks. The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association started announcing their award winners this week as they announced their All-State players and coaches on Thursday.

Below is a list of all the St. Louis area players and coaches that earned All-State and Player and Coach of the Year honors.

Class 6 Boys:

Tony Irons was also named the Ryan Shaw National High School Basketball Coaches Association award winner for the state of Missouri after guiding the Wolverines to their 13th state championship.

Kirkwood girls’ assistant coach Brad Sutterer was named the Kevin “Cub” Martin Assistant Coach of the Year for his efforts in assisting the Pioneers program to another outstanding season.

Brandon Mitchell-Day and Saniah Tyler were nominated for the highest honor in the state, the Mr. and Miss Show-Me Basketball Award. The award goes to a senior player that exhibits exceptional talent and skill in the game of basketball, along with strong character.

There will be many more awards given out in the coming weeks.

This weekend, spring sports are in full effect as Fort Zumwalt west will host one of the biggest track and field meets in the early season Saturday starting at 9 a.m. In the gym, the finals of the Southside boys’ volleyball tournament will take place at noon Saturday with the Francis Howell Central tournament going on all day Saturday.

On the diamond, CBC and De Smet will open Metro Catholic Conference action Saturday at Cadet Park starting at 1 p.m. Ladue and St. Dominic will take the field at noon out at Crusader Field while Westminster will travel to St. Charles County to take on Ft. Zumwalt West in a 12:30 p.m. start.

In lacrosse action, Rockhurst heads to St. Louis to take on De Smet at the home of the Spartans in a match that is set to begin at 1 p.m. while MICDS will play host to Memphis University School in a 2 p.m. start.
