The fall sports are on a seven-day break before practices begin next week, but we continue to prepare you for the fall season. In today’s Monday Morning Wrap-Up, we will take a look at a pair of teams that made deep runs in the state playoffs last season and will attempt to do the same this year.

Veteran Head Coach Antoine Torrey returns to the Chaminade sideline with a great mixture of returners, and young players that will look to defend their district title. Returning quarterback Drake Faust will run the offense and he will have a pair of outstanding running backs behind him.

MICDS head coach Fred Bouchard welcomes 15 starters back from last year’s squad that won the Metro League and advanced to the Class 4 semifinals. Winston Moore will pace the Rams offense after being named to the Class 4 All-State team last year while Nate Schuckman will anchor both the offensive and defensive lines.

Chaminade Red Devils

  • Head Coach – Antoine Torrey
  • Conference – Metro Catholic Conference
  • 2021 record – 7-6
  • 2021 highlights – Won their district in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 5 playoffs before losing to Holt in the quarterfinals 31-28.
  • Returning players: Derrick Fields Jr., Christopher Jenkins, Keith Watson, Drake Faust, Kyle Russell, and Hayden Faulb.
  • Players to Watch: Madden Irving, Reese Frericks, Jordan Pettis, and Jackson Otto.
  • Season Outlook:  “We are a fairly young football team and will have big shoes to fill replacing two-way standout Cam Epps (MCC Co-Offensive Player of the Year), two Division I Offensive linemen in Jimmy Lansing and Alex Todt, and a senior-heavy defensive line,” stated Torrey. “Although we only return two starters from last season’s offense, we have decent size up front with two proven running backs in Keith Watson and Madden Irving and a battle-tested quarterback in Drake Faust.”

  • Players to Watch: Senior Marcus Coleman – WR/DB/QB; Senior Michio Kamimura – DB; Junior Willy Carpenter – LB/RB; Junior Jeremiah Clay – WR/DB; Junior Eric Feng – DB; Junior Michael Larkin – RB/LB; Junior Tristan Williams – DB/WR; Sophomore Brian Gould – QB; Sophomore Adrian Ritchey – LB/RB; Sophomore Luke Koman – WR/DB; Sophomore Peyton Simon – LB/OL; Freshman Miles – OL/DL; Freshman Graham Faust – WR/DB; Freshman Henry Rohan – LB/WR; Freshman LJ Triplett – WR/DB/Ret; Freshman Gabe Weaver – WR/DB
  • Season Outlook:  “The outlook for 2022 is one of cautious optimism,” stated Bouchard. “With eight returning starters on offense and seven returning starters on defense, there is a reason for some positivity. However, replacing a solid group of graduates including four-year starting QB, Reagan Andrew, leaves some questions for the Rams. Starting with all-state players Steve Hall (RB) and Winston Moore (WR) are a great place to start which includes four starters along with two tight ends returning on the offensive front led by all-state tackle, Nate Schuckman. On defense, Cortlin Dalton leads the team from his linebacker spot while Soph Luke Allgeyer and Sr Devyn Rodgers anchor the defensive line. Seniors Cameron Lester and Tyler Petersen lead the secondary with extensive experience while Sr Dorian Reddic and Jr Carter Enyard handle the outside linebacker spots. Expect some new and young faces to step into prominent roles for 2022 led by the Coleman brothers, Marcus (Sr) and Miles (Fr) who will immediately impact the lineup. State track medalist Tristan Williams and Jeremiah Clay are out for football for the first time but bring an abundance of speed and skill to the gridiron. Expect role players, Willy Carpenter and Adrian Ritchey to expand their roles from part-time players in 2021 to full-time guys and defensive play-makers in 2022. Brian Gould and Zach Schmitz will likely handle the punting duties while Malik Orsan or newcomer Harrison Mandell will handle the place-kicking chores. Gould is also a gifted young QB who will challenge for playing time there. A talented group of additional sophomore and freshman players will provide depth and special teams help for the Rams this fall.”
