According to author, Dan O’Neill, no decade is more responsible for igniting St. Louis Cardinals passion and pride than 1980s. He says while inheriting a lineup ill-suited to the ballpark, a clubhouse tainted with substance abuse, a franchise in stagnation, Whitey Herzog re-invented the brand. In his new book Celebration: The Magic of the Cardinals in the 1980s, O’Neill says “with stunning moves and remarkable vision, he infused the Redbirds with pitching, speed and defense and introduced a decade of thrills and chills.” Tomorrow night, Whitey Herzog and some of the most popular players from the 1980s teams will sit down to talk to O’Neill and fans in St. Louis.
