The Return of the Sauls-Bag!
I answer the hard questions that only people on my Facebook feed are brave enough to ask.
My Cardinals positivity barrel was nearing empty, so I reached out to my baseball support system on the world wide web for questions, comments, and assistance getting near 1,000 words. Cardinals or not, I gotta pump out some content, for my buddy Danny Mac…so we might as well crowd source this thing!

Does Oli survive the season? If not, does Descalso get this gig by default or will any interim hire be made with all sides knowing there is zero guarantee of anything beyond 2025?
Physically, yes. I believe he will still be alive come the end of September. Will he still be the manager? They fired Matheny. They fired Shildt. So, it’s not as if it’s beyond them to drop another skipper like an NFL QB drops a girlfriend days before signing that first huge deal. But, I highly doubt they will. This team will tease us over and over all season and stay just close enough that a good hot streak would take them to the top of the central. But, in the end we may just be left at the altar like Big left Carrie in the Sex in the City movie. Yes, it all worked out eventually, but man…what a roller coaster.
On Descalso, he would be the move. They wouldn’t bring in an outsider mid-season.

Do you like the odds of the Blues in the first round of the playoffs?
After Monday, to quote my wife when I ask her if I should have a fourth slice of Coconut Creme Pie on my birthday to go with those six Beam and Diets, “No.”
Winnipeg was the best team in the regular season, and hanging your hat on playing someone close all year is the kind of thing a little league coach does so his shortstop doesn’t start crying in the 3rd inning. They have to protect what I will always call the Kiel Center this weekend and force the Jets to hold serve.

Now is it okay to say the Cardinals suck?
Mark, if you want to hate your favorite thing, feel free. Personally, just like the 2008 release of the second film in the X-Files franchise, I Want to Believe. After the destruction of the Braves I just watched as I typed this article they are at 10-14. In the next eight games they HAVE to go 6-2. Beat ATL tomorrow, demolish the Brewers and Reds and set the universe in order.

Good Cubs! Go!
Congrats on the book brother.
Thank you Ben! I’ve never felt safer in the City of Chicago than when rolling with you and the fellas in Wrigleyville. The book he is referring to is the autobiography of Jay Delsing I co-authored titled “You Wouldn’t Believe Me if I Told You,” available now for pre-order!
As for your first statement, gross.
Fun facts on the great city of Decatur; it was the first Illinois home of President Lincoln, and the birthplace of the Chicago Bears!

Hi Will, enjoy your work. My question is how much longer until the Cards should look at trading Nolan Arenado? He can still play and might attract some decent prospects to help the team in the future? Also, I have Ryan Helsley as my closer for Fantasy Baseball, he has not had many save opportunities this season so far. Should I look to trade him? I know he can save games but with the Cards struggling right now for wins, there are limited SAVE chances for him.
First, trading Arenado would send a message that it’s over. It’s done. Pack up the furniture and drop it at Goodwill. Yeah, we’d get a couple prospects, but who cares? The chance of this being another J.D. Drew for Adam Wainwright kinda deal is slim. Hold on to him tighter than a High Life in the Deer District on a Saturday night.
As for Helsley, keep him through May and then make a call. He’ll have 10-12 saves by then and be on track for 30-35 for the season. Is that good enough for you up there in former Hader-land? He’ll be solid for you through September and maybe bring you that long sought after title.

When do we call up Mathews and Hence?
As for Mathews, he’s gotten lit up so far this year and has been giving walks out like free samples on a Sunday at Sam’s Club. Let him marinate in Memphis like some BBQ at Rendezvous.
Tink has a “rib cage strain” and is on the 60 day IL. How do you strain your entire rib cabe? Was there some kind of Tom’s Twister at Six Flags incident? My guess is, if healthy, we will see them in the bullpen come September.
That’s all for now, friends! Thanks to all of you that sent in questions, you’re the reason I lace em up..I mean, turn on the laptops everyday. I’ll be back with more positivity, random references, and hope to share next week.
