It is time to give the Prep Sports scene a bigger voice in the St. Louis metro area! The High School Sports Caravan is excited to be a part of the “Scoops with Danny Mac” family.

You will see content daily that will preview some of the upcoming contests in the area, talk about the big games that took place, and put a spotlight on the outstanding student-athletes that are getting things done on the playing field, but also in the classroom.

Fans will also get to hear from many of the area coaches and members of the media in the weekly “Inside the Lines” podcast with Jim Powers. We will also have a boys and girls basketball Top 10 list that will get fans talking.

Let’s get things going with the Monday Wrap Up. This will give you a quick recap of some of the top games and performances from the past week.

  • CBC ripped off three wins this past week after falling to Chaminade in a huge Metro Catholic Conference battle on Jan. 14. The Cadets opened the week with a 56-50 road victory over the third-ranked team in Class Six, Staley. CBC then got a big MCC win over DeSmet 65-60, Friday evening and wrapped up the weekend with an 84-65 win over Modesto Christian at the Quincy Shootout. The fifth-ranked Cadets were paced by senior Robert Martin. Martin scored 29 points in the victory over the Spartans and added 16 markers in the win over Modesto.

  • The Webster Groves girls hoops team traveled to Nixa to take part in the Nixa Invitational Tournament and returned with the third-place trophy. The tournament showcased four teams that are ranking in the top 10 in the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association poll. Three of those teams are in the top five of the Class Five rankings. The Statesmen are ranked third in the latest poll and opened the classic with a 51-50 win over Park Hill South. Webster Groves took on the host Eagles in the semifinals and fell to the fifth-ranked team in Class Six 68-61. The Statesmen claimed the third-place crown with a 45-40 come-from-behind victory over Cape Notre Dame.

  • The Liberty boys basketball team extended its current winning streak to five games as the Eagles defeated Ft. Zumwalt South 55-49 in a key GAC North battle Friday evening. The loss for the Bulldogs snapped an eight-game winning streak of their own. Liberty outscored the Ft. Zumwalt South 24-12 in the fourth quarter to earn the win as Nate Bobikiewicz led the attack for the Eagles with 15 points. Jaden Betton added 14 markers while David Richard chipped in with 13 points to aid Liberty on the win.

  • John Burroughs super sophomore Allie Turner put on a show in the Bombers 69-48 win over Lutheran South Friday evening. Turner scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and had five assists in the contest. She also was a force on the defensive end with five steals and a block in the win over the Lancers.

  • The metro area added two more girls to the 1,000th point club over the weekend. Saniah Tyler joined the club in the Incarnate Word’s 62-53 win over Normal (Ill.) Friday evening. Tyler has been a big part of the IWA 52 game winning streak as the Red Knights added to the streak with a 73-54 win over Illinois powerhouse, Bolingbrook Saturday evening. Webster Groves Eliza Maupin put her name on the list in the Statesmen victory Friday evening in the Nixa Tournament.

There is a lot of great action taking place this week in the metro area as the girl’s swimmers will begin the chase for conference championships as many teams will participate in their league meets over the next two weeks as their road to the Missouri State High School Activities Association Championships is on the horizon.

A pair of basketball tournaments take center stage this coming week as the annual Lindberg girl’s tournament begins Monday evening with MICDS and Kirkwood leading the eight-team field. On the boy’s side, the annual Circle Seven Classic at Parkway West welcomes a strong field to West County. Liberty, DeSmet, and Hazelwood Central join the host Longhorns in a tournament that has had a tradition of great games.

Make sure to check back tomorrow as we will have our first boys and girls basketball Top 10 polls for teams in the metro area. There are so many great teams out there, so it will be interesting to see who will make the inaugural list.
