THE REDBIRD REVIEW The Cardinals have just one game left to play in May, the Friday-night series opener at Philadelphia. It’s been a rollicking ride, with the Redbirds swerving from one extreme to another. The Cardinals crashed. They cruised. They spun into a...
THE REDBIRD REVIEW I was trying to think of a song that fits the Cardinals’ half-awake offensive performance in Monday’s boring 3-1 loss at Cincinnati. I’ll go with “Daysleeper” by R.E.M. That’s mostly because of the title, though I like the lyrics about the...
WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S Where did that boring team go? I don’t know, but I hope they stay there. What we’re seeing lately is a thrilling, confident team that never stops competing. The gung-ho Cardinals are putting on a show. And the best thing about the their...

THE REDBIRD REVIEW I was happily surprised to see Matt Carpenter batting leadoff for Sunday’s series wrap at Milwaukee. It seemed like old times for the oldest player on the Cardinals. It was a smart move by manager Oli Marmol to go with Carpenter at the top of the...
Fans are demanding the firing of Oli Marmol. He’s an easy scapegoat, but to an enraged fan base Marmol’s managerial skills or perceived flaws are largely irrelevant to the much larger picture. The public just wants someone to pay for the team’s .430 winning percentage...
